Carolinas Wireless Association 2011 Golf Tournament Raises $9,500 for Charity

June 6, 2011

RALEIGH, NC: The Carolinas Wireless Association held its Sixth Annual Charity Golf Event on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Crooked Creek Golf Course in Fuqua-Varina to benefit three different charities this year.

The first charity was Victory Junction, founded by the Petty family in honor of Adam Petty, provides life-changing experiences for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. Donating to this charity was voted on by the membership of the Carolinas Wireless Association.  The second charity was to benefit college fund for the three children of Brian Gottfried, an association member that passed away unexpectedly this past year.  The third charity was for the storm relief efforts for North Carolina and Alabama.

The day began with 144 golfers taking the course for a fun day of golf.  After the round of golf, Danny Agresta, President of the Carolinas Wireless Association, welcomed everyone and thanked them for their generosity in donating to the charities.  After dinner was completed, awards were handed out for the first, second and third place winning teams in three flights.  Awards were also distributed for closest to the pin and the longest drives.  Over 50 raffle prizes were handed out as well.  The final prize was a portable generator donated by National Power.

Because of the generosity of the members and players, a check for $6000 was presented to Nicole Connor, representing Victory Junction.  “We are so grateful to receive this donation,” said Ms. Conner. “This money will be used to help children with diseases come to the camp and have fun while still having their medical needs met.”

Mr. Agresta announced each of Brian Gottfried’s children will receive $1,000 for their tuition funds.  “Brian was a beloved member of our association and a good friend to many of us and he will be missed,” said Mr. Agresta.

The Association also raised $250 for the storm relief funds for North Carolina and Alabama.  The board members of the association announced they will match this donation for a total of $500.  A check will be mailed to the American Red Cross earmarked for the two states’ storm relief.

The Carolinas Wireless Association’s next event will be in Raleigh on September 15, 2011.  For more details about the Carolinas Wireless Association, visit www.carolinaswirelessassociation.
